Our structure at 1601 E. Main St. will become a living canvas and an enduring visual anchor along a high-traffic corridor. This space serves as the launchpad for vibrant public activations, resident-led art, and annual neighborhood celebrations. More importantly, it acts as the baseline for grassroots outreach and door-to-door canvassing designed to unite the Eastside neighborhood, support local underinvested entrepreneurs, and build a visually cohesive corridor shaped directly by the culture and voices of the neighbors who live here.
The Dynamic Creative Pipeline
We are establishing an ongoing, permanent cultural pipeline that extends far beyond a single medium. Project Cold Front will consistently welcome a multi-disciplinary network of underinvested creators; including muralists, sculptors, photographers, videographers, poets, and storytellers. By pairing creative expression with compensated opportunities for local youth and under-resourced artists, this multi-layered storytelling ensures the Eastside neighborhood remains a perpetually evolving epicenter of dynamic, resident-led public expression that honors local history and combats displacement.
The Creative Retreat & Scalable Residential Model
We are actively addressing a major institutional gap in Kalamazoo’s arts ecosystem while pioneering housing equity on the Eastside. Project Cold Front will feature a high-design, neighborhood-embedded creative retreat footprint tailored for visiting artists, marquee headliners, and guest lecturers. Beyond hospitality, this footprint serves as the pilot for a scalable residential framework; laying the foundation for low-barrier, affordable homeownership set at or below 120% Area Median Income (AMI) to build long-term household wealth and ensure under-resourced residents can remain permanently rooted in the Eastside neighborhood.
Consistent & Scalable Growth
Tourists, visitors, and creatives will one day be able to regularly inhabit these residential units. This hospitality integration ensures the space is completely self-sustaining and scalable, providing consistent, positive additions to the neighborhood we know and love.
The 1-Month Residency Pilot
A fully funded, immersive program featuring a 2-bedroom unit equipped with full kitchen access, private amenities, and an adaptable multi-purpose sound/visual arts studio. This model relieves the operational burden on visiting creators while ensuring they leave a lasting, tangible piece of artwork or cultural impact behind in the neighborhood.
